FluEqual: Integration of Refugees in Salzburg
Nine organizations in the state of Salzburg came together and started “FluEqual” – a project to improve the situation in towns with refugee housing:
- Amt der Salzburger Landesregierung (State of Salzburg)
- Caritas
- Efdö (Protestant refugee services)
- Initiative Frau & Arbeit (Initiative Women and Work)
- BiBer
- Arbeiterkammer (Chamber of Employees)
- Wirtschaftskammer (Chamber of Economy)
- Regionalverbände Lungau und Oberpinzgau (Regional Organizations of townships)
FluEqual - integration activies at a glance:
- 10 Language courses “German as a foreign language” have been held in the city as well as in the rural regions of Salzburg
- Dialog Processes supporting intercultural life in towns through information, conflict resolution and enhancing intercultural communication
- In the Internet Project a team of 20 asylum seekers created an internet platform for refugees
- Vocational training prepared asylum seekers for their professional life after they are granted. Workshops focussed on different fields of the job market, tools, machinery and materials as well as on awareness of own individual qualification and job chances in Austria. Relevant professional experience was gained by charitable employment of asylum seekers within the townships.
Participants of FluEqual were refugees during their asylum procedure, living in the basic care of state of Salzburg (Grundversorgung). Special attention was directed to the participation of femal asylum seekers. Through childcare, course time and location setting, as well as increasing employment of female trainers the social and professional integration of female asylum seekers could be enhanced.
Integration into today’s society also means getting to know the modern ways of communication, computing and the Internet. The application of the Computer as well as the World Wide Web was a prime element in all courses offered by FluEqual.
