Vocational training in the project FluEqual
An asylum process, that runs over several years; housing, food and health insurance provided by the state as well as an occupational law for foreigners, that impedes entrance to the labour market – those are the characteristics of an asylum seeker’s live in Austria.
How can it be guaranteed, under these circumstances, that a preparation and qualification for the labour market takes place? Caritas Salzburg worked in three of the rural, economically disadvantaged regions with 90 asylum seekers and led them to a first vocational orientation in Austria by means of:
- Public service employment of asylum seekers in municipalities
- Learning factories
- Build-up language courses
- Job coaching, individual and in small groups
- Individual qualification measures.
Using those measures, asylum seekers can – even though an actual occupation might not be arranged within the years of ongoing asylum process – gather first occupational practice, improve their language knowledge through application, get to know cultural differences in the working world and acquire qualification certificates for their subsequent occupation.
